Al Marquis v. L.V. Taxi Drivers

Local attorney Al Marquis (of Marquis & Aurbach) has taken it upon himself to fight the good fight on behalf of taxi-less women. Apparently, Marquis has conducted some research on his own in the form of an undercover investigation, and found that if given the choice between picking up men or women, Las Vegas taxi drivers are now choosing men almost exclusively.

Why, you ask? It's because of the bounties offered by local strip clubs, which are now up to $100 a head. The bounties are paid to local taxi drivers for every person they drop off at the doorstep of participating clubs. From LV Now:
Given a choice between a potential female passenger and a couple of guys who might be strip club bound, drivers bypass the woman every single time. True, they only ran their experiment eight times, a small sample, but the results were pretty clear.
Al has taken up the fight to remedy this injustice, forming an organization called Fairness in Transportation to push for harder legislation against this type of conduct. Does anyone else find it odd that Al has picked this particular cause to take up? Just wondering.

  1. Well, I know Al Marquis to be an outstanding individual and professional. I'm happy to defer to his discretion on whatever causes he finds worthy of his time.

  5. Yes, that is odd. Seems like he might have too much free time on his hands.

  6. Okay, seriously, a man as smart as Mr Marquis, nay, a MAN, as smart as him, should know that the solution to government created scarcity is not more rules and regs but less; let's open the licensing of cabs up to whoever can drive. Swoosh! Scarcity gone.

(Boohoo, some may cry, but what if there's then lots of cabs on the street? Yes, it's always sad when great demand is satisfied by abundant supply. Greens all over the globe are working hard to make sure that happens less and less every f'ing day.)

  7. Okay, I just saw the video clip. Remind me not to take a cab to my next depo at M&A. Yeah. For sure.

I am now off to cruise the strip for hapless ladies looking for a ride. Where's my brill?

  9. The truth is Mr Marquis is working for one of the gentleman's clubs. Mr Marquis is asking for laws and punishments that are exactly the same as the laws now. The video was taken at the Las Vegas Convention Center. There is a Taxi Stand at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Why were these people not in line at the taxi stand ? They would have been placed in a taxi by there designated position in the taxi queue. George Knapp the
Investigative Reporter for Chanel 13 has been made aware of Mr Marquis less than honorable intentions.

Why would Marquis working for one of the strip clubs push him to conduct this study? Seems to me that the study comes out against the bounty policy that brings these clubs money.

Good point about the taxi stand, BTW.

  11. Ben Merliss...obviously you are a taxi driver. Were you the second cab who drove by the girl and picked up the guys? What strip club pays the best per head?

  12. Al Marquis isn't a very good attorney. Maybe he's a better private investigator.

Look at the history. These clubs have been fighting each other in court for years. Most recently, the case filed by DejaVue. It is just another angle for one business to use against another business.

Are you the forum idiot ?

I ask because intelligent questions get intelligent answers.

    BTW

Doesn't anyone other than me have the balls to post with their name ?

    I am done here.

What a well-reasoned and "intelligent" analysis. Now, take your ball and go home.
