Valley Layoff Watch, Part 3

Yes, that's right, we have back-to-back Layoff Watch posts, and this time there are actual layoffs to report. The culprit is Santoro Driggs Walch Kearney Holley & Thompson who, according to our math, has recently cut loose 5 4 people. From our anonymous tipster:
3 people have left Santoro Driggs in the past few days. Two have left on their own accord, but the rumor is they are just running in front of the broom. Two others were let go. The two that were let go may or may not have been given a period of time to try and find new jobs before they are officially taken off the payroll.
Yikes! Sounds like trouble. We wonder if these cuts are related to the rumored layoffs we heard about back in February.

UPDATE
We've received clarification that there were only 4 associates involved, not 5.

(Thanks, Anon)

  3. There is no honest way to suggest that Santoro Driggs "cut loose" four associates. Unless by cut loose you mean that several associates quit to pursue other opportunities and Santoro Driggs failed to pursue legal remedies to force them to stay. Then they might have been cut loose.

  4. All right! I'm with 2:49pm on this one! At least, it would be comforting to think he/she is right. Yes, the market is such that firms aren't firing, they are losing talent to better offers. Whew! Load off my mind. . .

Honestly, I have no reason to believe either WWL or 2:49pm.

  5. Santoro Driggs apparently raised their starting salary as well, according to NALP.

  6. If Anon 2:49 is right, then I guess those who got laid off at other firms (or the many law students whose pervious offers were not honored) ought to be sending their resumes over to Santoro Diggs Walsh.

  8. And please enlighten us 2:49 as to what legal remedies Santoro Driggs would use to "force them to stay"? You can put whatever term you want on it -- Reduction in Force, Layoff, Down Sizing, etc -- the fact of the matter is those people do not have a job and it is doubtful they left to strike out on their own or pursue another venture in this economy. If you believe that, I want some of what you are smoking.

  9. Joe Law - why don't you do some investigation and ask for a statement from the firm? ATL gets the occasional "official response," let's see you step up your game.
