Judge Cadish A Possible Candidate For U.S. District Court

District Court Judge Elissa Cadish is rumored to be on the "short list" of possible candidates to fill Judge Clive Jones' spot in U.S. District Court. From the LV Sun:
Reid’s office has been inquiring within the legal community about Cadish’s credentials. He’s said to be looking for a woman to fill the lifetime judicial seat.

Huh. Wonder if they have a masseuse over at the federal building.

So, commenters, what do you think about her "credentials?" Has she impressed any of you in the past two years? Enough to deserve a lifetime appointment?

The Sun also noted that veteran U.S. magistrates Peggy Leen in Las Vegas and Valerie Cooke in Reno were being considered.

  1. We're doomed. To paraphrase Gerry Ford, "if Martin Luther King, Jr. were alive, he'd be spinning in his grave."

Anyway, I vote for Judge Williams--he is an enjoyable personality and if we're using idiotic criteria we could do worse...

  2. Are you kidding? Williams is a lightweight hack. I keep waiting for him to grow a pair and make a decision. I get tired of appearing in front of him and watching case after case after case go by where he punts on making a decision, hoping the parties will settle so he doesn't have to do his JOB and make a freaking decision!!!

  3. She's smart and courteous. Oh wait, so am I so maybe I should be considered. Oh wait, I'm not a woman.

  4. Williams is a wimp.

    Cadish is pretty solid.

    Meh.

  5. Give Peggy the job!

  6. From my experience in Ditrict Court, Cadish is astute and makes well-reasoned decisions (even if she rules against me). I would say that her and Delaney are two refreshing additions to the bench. I will be sad to see Cadish go.

  7. Cadish is competent but suffers very low self-esteem, in part because she was a billable hour spittoon for a bullying partner in her prior life.

If she can find a good hair stylist and work through some of her problems with a good therapist, I think she would be great on the bench.

If she can't fix the problems, she may well be the sucker judge every A+ scumbag attorney loves to be in front of. Push the buttons and watch her go....

On another note, did she grind some political meat in the Krolicki case? I haven't looked into it, but the facts seem a bit odd.

  8. It will need to be a woman, without question. If not Cadish, then whom?

Not sure what the hair style comment has to do with anything. I think we just need someone with the mental horsepower and work ethic to actually get stuff done. IMHO, that usually means someone NOT from the government, but from actual private practice at a good firm.

    Cadish is solid.

  9. Hey, 9:05 AM, you say it "has to be a woman." Why? If a dozen highly qualified men, all with good hair, are lined-up and ready, why pass them by to get a not-as-qualified women?

  10. Cadish is good, but Peggy Leen would be better.

  11. Peggy Leen would be a great addition the bench. She's always prepared, knows her stuff, and doesn't take b.s. from anyone.

  12. Leen all the way, she deserves it. (I've never been before Caddish, but at least you know Leen already does a great job as a federal magistrate. Does that just make too much sense?)

  13. Cadish is extremely bright, civil, always prepared, and not afraid to make a decision. I'd be sad to lose her from the Dist. Ct., but she is extremely deserving of this opportunity.

  14. I'm not sure what Cadish's hairstyle has to do with her qualifications as a Judge.

Both Judge Cadish and Leen are solid choices.

Cadish is a very smart Judge who understands the law and makes well informed decisions.

As for Peggy, I have never argued in front of her, however, she has presided as the Magistrate on many of may cases, and I have been satisfied that her rulings are just and fair.

  15. Cadish is one of the best in the district court. It would be a big loss to the RJC if she were to leave.

Not sure why the love for Delaney - have not been impressed with her. she is unprepared and punts on making big decisions. Agree with the earlier comment about Williams.

Cadish is one of the few district court judges who actually cares about the rules of procedure and follows them. Using that criteria, she is a shoe in for federal judge.

  16. Cadish's hairstyle is key to the whole appointment. It would clearly be a mistake to nominate a poorly coifed person to the bench -- her ill-conceived mane detracts from her decision-making prowess. It would be impossible to take her seriously during appearances with that fullet, no matter her strong and well-reasoned decisions.

  17. What???

Vega, Oesterle, Walsh, Miley, and Leavitt aren't even being considered??!

What an outrage and waste of astute and high-level legal acumen!!!!

Nevada will never get anywhere until it promotes its best and brightest.

  19. 11:45 - ok which judge are you?

All the judges you selected are on the other page with being taken off. All you selected... are not worthy.

Walsh, Miley and Leavitt - oh please. They don't stand a chance. They all need to get off the bench.

  20. Vega, Oesterle, Walsh , Miley and Leavitt ARE NOT our best and brightest!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think that was his/her point. No rational lawyer could ever describe any of the judges identified by 11:45 and 11:48 as being the "best" or the "brightest. Perhaps mentioning them was a joke.

  22. Hey 9:47 am: why do you assume that the woman candidate would be less qualified?

  23. going with the odds

  24. Add Zimmerman to the list of "hopefuls". Placing the sarcasm aside, Gonzalez is one of the best and brightest, Reid isnt considering her? She must be a Republican.
