RJ Publishes "Magic Number" List for Public Employees

Oddly veiled as a hit-piece on our brave firefighters, the RJ has published a story accompanied by a HUGE Excel spreadsheet (upper-left corner) listing the salaries of every single Clark County employee.

The list includes the salaries of our local DA's and PD's, and some of their salary/retirement packages put our own Magic Number list to shame. (BTW ... we're still taking tips for our 2009 list of civil firm salary/benefit info)

Becoming a "public servant" is starting to look better by the day.

  1. Good work Robert Teuton, R Graham, Randall Weed, Elana Hatch, Robert Miller, and Mary Anne Miller - all pulling in over $200k per year. Not bad for lowly public servants.

  2. Why is there a Law Clerk on there who made $80,636.64? I hope that is a typo.

  3. Most, if not all, of the DAs and PDs who pulled in over $200k retired last year and cashed in sick leave and vacation time when they left. The top range, for those who do not receive longevity checks, is around $140k.

  4. Wow. It seems like the DAs and PDs here make double what other counties/states pay. I suspect there will be some public outcry about this soon, given the economic climate here.

  5. Wow...I certainly picked the wrong profession. In retrospect, firefighting seems like the place to be...salary-wise and scoring hot chicks.

  6. ^^ True, they make very few "sexy lawyer" calendars.

  7. Judge Teuton is a baller...I wonder why he took such a pay cut to work in the Family Court. Makes no sense to me.

  8. Referring to the picture:

Because the government can spell. (And properly use parentheses!)

  9. Can someone tell my why this is not actionable?

  10. I think it's good...taxpayers should definitely know what they're paying for. It angers me to see what some of the weaker law professors make, though...

  11. Does being a federal public defender rot your brain? Are you so deluded by your quest for "justice" that you start to NOT understand the law? I propose that it does.

  12. FPD? What does a federal position have to do with this post?

Having said that, I completely disagree with you. Having worked for the FPD's office, I know those are some pretty sharp people. They have a tough job and they do it well.

  14. Hey 9:59. I didn't know U.S. Attorneys read this blog. Are you going to subpoena them to discover the authors of the posts like the tax protesters in the RJ?

  15. Ummmm, first, those numbers include benefits--it's not their actual take home pay.

Second, why shouldn't PDs and DAs make a decent living? They certainly handle a lot more cases than private attorneys do at ant given time. Just because they are not engaging in the lameness that is billing doesn't mean they aren't putting seriously long hours and hard work.

Third, clerks do not make $80. They make around $55k.
