Wow. . . Driscoll knows Western European Martial Arts, American Kempo Karate, and "achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America." Sweet!
What I love about these new attorneys is that they haven't even stepped foot in a courtroom and all of a sudden they're "experts" in criminal and BK. Quit coming into our house and messing it up, stay in construction defect where you belong.
Even though it's not really local in nature, I thought for sure there would be at least some mention on this website of Justice Stevens' retirement announcement.
Ordinarily I do not participate in these but I was curious so I looked up the link for Mr. Driscoll. While I am sure he is a competent attorney (he did pass the bar), I do not agree that only he can provide "the justice you deserve" especially when he just started. Amazingly how these newbies think that just because they pass the bar, they are the best. It is funny to see their faces when they loose a simple montion because they didn't do something they should have done but did not know about it. Hmm- rules? Also, let me get this straight, he volunteered and taught classed on divorce yet forgot to mention that it is mandatory for all Boyd law students to do so as part of their studies. He is a member of the Nevada Inn yet when I asked two members they do not recall seeing him. I also learned that co-writing, producing and presenting a program in that society is standard- all members do that. So why is he the only one putting it on his bio? Maybe he simply had to put something in that empty space. Nevertheless, hats off to him for trying to make it in this rat race regardless of what type of law he will choose. After all, he cannot do much worse that some of our recently disbarred coleauges and some others we all know.
You are absolutely right. Patrick should not have included things like the community service requirement, because that was required of every member of his class. Instead, his website should loudly proclaim,
"I AM NOT AN ASSHAT!"
That will definitely set him apart from his fellow members of the Bar.
Now, if you will excuse me, I'm off to register iamnotanasshat.com
Good grief, I wondered when somebody was going to mention Patrick. Although I never had a class with Troy Fox, I can't imagine anyone outdoing Patrick.
I love that time as an attorney somehow equates to competence. There are many long time attorneys that are competent at one thing holding down a job. Granted most new attorneys are a pain in the ass but usually they over prepare as opposed to just showing up and sometimes I actually see some that impress me. I agree if you put your martial arts training on your bio you haven't got much to hang your hat on but hey I'm undefeated in bar fights and my record on traffic tickets is stellar
David Churchill got a large verdict against Bill Ebert in Judge Cory's court. I believe it was a case against the Rio. Couple of dudes got in a fight at the Rio. When Rio security arrested/detained them, they put a gang banger in a room with the plaintiff (another fighter), who was apparently handcuffed (banger was not cuffed). Gang banger grabbed an oxygen tank or a fire extinguisher and smashed plaintiff in the head, causing brain damage. Rio apparently ditched the video and got tagged for spoliation. The jury gave a little over $600k in past and futures, and about a million in punies.
I spoke to Churchill yesterday about the trial. He said that defense counsel Bill Ebert did an exellent job considering the facts that he was up against. The Rio not only spoiled the videotape, they also "lost" all of their training materials from 2005. Churchill asked for $3,000,000-4,000,000 and jury's total verdict with punitives was $2,171,000. He credited Ebert with keeping the verdict as low as it was.
Not having reviewed Patrick's website, I have an opinion. (Imagine that, an an atty with an opinion).
It takes balls to hang a shingle and skills to succeed. And frankly, you bunch of narcisstic azzhats, the website isn't for your benefit, its for marketing and to inform and assist in obtaining clients.
I'm all for poking fun at the content, don't question anyones competence until you know first hand.
Not sure how narcissism necessarily applies to this discussion, but anyway...the problem with 'reserving judgment for a couple of years' on newly licensed attorneys who hang a shingle straight out of law school is the clients who may receive inadequate representation during those couple of years. In my opinion, some sort of clerkship/apprenticeship/residency-type of requirement should be in place for attorneys, as with the medical profession.
Initially, I attributed the neg. vibe toward Driscoll to the normal neg. vibe of this site, generally. However, after looking at the link offered, I discovered that Driscoll apparently believes that Fam. Law, BK, PI, and even Estate planning are all somehow related enough for a sole practitioner. My guess, this guy is a walking malpractice suit...or, more likely than not, he'll accept clients who won't pay for adequate representation and they'll get what they paid for.
Its narcissistic to think he give a shit what you or I think about his site.
And frankly, as a sole practitioner of over 10 yrs, one can eek out a fine living doing non-complex family law, simple BK's (less so since the passage of BAPCPA) non litigation PI and (very) simple wills and such, without risking a malpractice claim.
Just sit there in your cubicle of a non-view office, figuring out where to pad your billables to make up for the time spent posting to this blog, while the rest of us plan which airline flies 1st class the cheapest to St. John and which smart phone we want to try next.
Suck it Troy Fox:

ReplyDeleteOnly if Double Down accepts pre-revolution Chinese Government bonds...
ReplyDeleteMaybe the Double Down will accept a trade for her overpriced snacks and soda.
ReplyDeleteI see its "open thread," so would it be appropriate to mention here that H & S is a tool box?
ReplyDeleteWow. . . Driscoll knows Western European Martial Arts, American Kempo Karate, and "achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America." Sweet!
ReplyDeleteWhat firm isn't a tool box? Once you put 7 or more attorney's together, it is ass hat central.
ReplyDeleteWhat I love about these new attorneys is that they haven't even stepped foot in a courtroom and all of a sudden they're "experts" in criminal and BK. Quit coming into our house and messing it up, stay in construction defect where you belong.
ReplyDeleteWow 1:30, why are you so over-aggressive towards CD attorneys?
ReplyDeleteDriscoll doesn't do construction defect. He went from passing the bar to hanging his shingle out there in "your house".
Somebody get 1:30 a hankie.
Even though it's not really local in nature, I thought for sure there would be at least some mention on this website of Justice Stevens' retirement announcement.
ReplyDeleteWho, from Nevada, would be qualified enough for Reid to nominate for a SCOTUS position?
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts...no one.
Justice Stevens = asshat
ReplyDeleteHave a blast at the reunion, my fellow 97 barbriers. I can't make it, because I will be at AC/DC. Anyone else going?

ReplyDelete11:19,
ReplyDeleteyou already used that line.

ReplyDelete5:09 - yeah s/he already used that one but it was a pretty good one.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I wrote my above comments without any personal knowledge of Patrick. If he is indeed an asshat, then please disregard.
ReplyDeleteEven so, I am in the process of obtaining www.iamnotanasshat.com. It will make a wonderful slogan on the back of the CAT bus, I think.
Has anybody heard anything about a large plaintiff verdict in Judge Cory's courtroom today? I heard something as I was walking out of the courthouse.

ReplyDeleteTime as an attorney does not equal competence, but NO time as an attorney definitely equals not competent.

If your mommy is your secretary you definitely are an ASSHAT... Isn't that right Patrick.
ReplyDeleteA casino spoliated a video that supported a charge of wrongdoing on its part??? No!!

I'm surprised that the Rio allowed the Courts and Churchill to commit such a flagrant carriage of justice against it.

Let's reserve judgment for a couple years.
