Winkler Disbarred For Life

Let this be a lesson to you young attorneys - if you steal more than $260,000 from your client trust account, you will be disbarred for life. Less than $260,000? Well, that remains to be seen.

The State Bar disciplinary panel took less than one hour to deliberate Jeanne Winkler's fate, and unanimously recommended that she be disbarred for life. The panel consisted of attorneys Tom Ryan, Robert Schumacher, and Lary Lamoreux and "lay member" Carrie Taylor.

During his closing argument, bar counsel Rob Bare had this to say about the responsibilities of attorneys:
"A law license is a license of trust. We as attorneys have to be held to a higher standard or else the public loses faith in us. We are the guardians of the justice system."
Well said, Mr. Bare. Now let's tattoo that quote on the forearm of every member of the disciplinary committee and maybe we can start to earn back a little more of the public's faith.

The Supremes have to sign off on the panel's decision before it becomes final.

  1. The state bar lets a lot of crap fly; fortunately, client trust fund theft is not one of them. Good Job, Bar. By the way, Winkler ran the projector for my Barbri class in 97. She also used to bring snacks and sodas and charged a lot for them -- pissing off everyone in class.

  2. Why haven't criminal charges been filed against her?

  3. Good job bar. This one was easy though.... $260,000 of your clients funds taken? There was no other choice.

Let's see what they do with the other three that are up on disciplinary action. You know the one with the DUI, the one that stole the necklace and the one that beat his judge wife and choked and killed his dog.

Then we will really see if the board has the guts to do the right thing and put Nevada back where it should be (with a little respect.)

  4. Is THIS what it takes for the bar to actually do something?

By the way, Noel Gage? Felon and active Nevada attorney: http://www.nvbar.org/findalawyerdetail.asp?Bar_Number=6305

  5. Gage is still pending.

  6. How does 8:04 remember she played that role during the '97 Barbri class?

  7. 8:04 here... I like to keep tabs on my bar-mates. She just sort of stuck out ... mostly because I recall she didn't pass the bar first time around (I believe).

anyway ... everyone keep your mitts of the trust funds!! and don't overprice your snack foods.

  8. Hey 8:04 -

According to the State Bar, Noel Gage was admitted in 1997 so that might be two member of the same class!

I also attended Barbri that year, but I don't recall either Winkler (maybe vaguely) or Gage (not at all). Who knew....

  9. Gage probably took west review (97 was its last year)

  10. wondering if anything will be done to Judge Jones based upon his involvement in Winckler's problems

  11. Make sure you spell her last name correctly. It's WINKLER, not Winckler.

We wouldn't want to confuse her with an innocent party.

  12. I remember 97 BarBri, too. Jeannie and Fat Richard ran the tape player. Tweedles Dee and Dumb. Good times ... Good times.

  13. I was in that '97 BarBri class too and I remember Jeannie and Dreitzer. I also remember Stephen Smith giving an awful lecture on Nevada ethics (oxymoron) and somebody had a meltdown in the class and started screaming at Smith. Good times indeed.

  14. Yeah. Whenever she couldn't get the tape to play, she would shrug and say "Oh well. You're smart people. You'll figure it out."

  15. Class of 97 = bar numbers approx. 6250 - 6600.

Looks like Jeannie didn't pass until two years later and she already had flunked once by 97. Should have been three strikes and you're out!

  16. Jeannie kind of reminds me of John Belushi in Animal House. "Seven years of college down the toilet."

  17. I was in that class too, and I recall the meltdown but not the subject matter (bonus points if you do). I see Dreitzer was ultimately admitted in 1998. Apparently there was more than a few people who really enjoyed the Barbri experience.

  18. Class of 97 BarBri reunion at Double Down Saloon, Friday, 5:30.

Be there or be pubically reprimanded and have to pay the cost of the proceedings.

    ReplyDelete
  19. But Belushi went on to become a Senator...

    ReplyDelete
  20. I sure don't want a pubic reprimand. I'll be there!

  21. Senator Winkler.

In this state, it could fucking happen.

  22. Crawford allegedly took over $750,00. The Nevada Supreme Court only suspended him for 5 years. I guess it pays to have a friend as a jurist on the bench.

Wonder what will happen to the dog/wife beater AKA THE MICHAEL VICK OF LAS VEGAS?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Miley - The Michael Vick of Las Vegas! Very good.

He's such a mess and so is his wife.

They both need to be disbarred for life!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Judge Miley is OK in my book. I wonder how many underestimate her based on her looks? To say she should be disbarred is just asinine.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Disbarred? Probably not.

    Disrobed? Yes

  27. If you know Stephie Miley you would know no ones discounts her because of her looks.

Her looks is ALL she has. Stupid is as stupid does.... and to go back to the wife beating, dog killing husband is your first notion she has nothing "up there".

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree, she isn't the smartest one out there. In fact in court she doesn't even understand what you are talking about more than half the time.

How we elect judges is just ridiculous! She got elected on looks and looks alone.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I am not an expert here, but is it possible that Miley = Halverson + doable?

    No ability
    Ass kisser/climber
    Abusive husband
    Huge sense of entitlement
    Low self-esteem
State Judge with not the faintest interest in "justice" or even the "law." I don't picture law journals spread over the bed at Miley's house at night. "oh, Ed, look, here's a great article in Standford Law Review on the 8th Amendment in Juvenile cases. It's almost as good as that article on the reliability of DNA evidence we read last night. [pause] Wait a second, it that a rolled up New York Review of Books I feel brushing up against my thigh?...."

  30. She was one of the most incompetent and scared lawyers I've ever seen. But firms would keep her around for a year or two so that male partners could oggle her. Did she ever actually stay at a firm long enough to handle a real case? She was a complete waste of a law license, once she finally passed the bar exam.

  32. 10:36 did you say "Standford"? Wow, they don't even teach Boyd grads how to spell...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Most Boyd grads couldn't find Stanford on a map. And that's because many U.S. Americans don't have maps. South Africa, such as . . .

    ReplyDelete
  34. Q: Why did the Boyd Law Grad keep a coat hanger in her back seat?
A: In case she locks the keys in her car.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I know Judge Miley.
She hated being in court and was scared out of her wits as a lawyer. I think she was afraid someone was going to find out she didn't know law. She would just stand there and wouldn't know what to say, she just did what someone told her to.

She was lucky to win on her looks - but my god she has no clue in what she is doing. How she passed the bar is anyone's guess.

It is a waste of a law license, really it is.

  36. I too took bar review in '97. We came in on a Saturday as I recall for a live lecture on Nevada Law which was very useful.
There was a woman in the class that was giving the speaker a hard time. I thought she was disruptive. There were a lot of complaints about the bar review. Missed lectures and tapes that were old and did not play. I expected more live lectures. The sound quality was poor. Was the disbarred woman Winkler running the class? The materials and the program made the difference but it could have been better. I passed so it was no big deal.

Was there really a reunion at Double Down? What a dive bar. How about next time at Paradise Cantina? Two for one specials.

  37. If you were in the 97 BARBRI class, but can't quite remember Winkler, think "JUNK IN THE TRUNK"

    ... NOW you remember!

  38. Worse crimes by NV Attorneys

December 2005, Jeanne Winkler was appointed Guardian ad Litem and did a great job for the child at issue. In late 2006, Jeanne suddenly STOPPED. At the same time, my case was ruled by "the best liar wins" -- BECAUSE:

I didn't know then 1) Jeanne was under investigation; 2) my attorney was under investigation 3) the next attorney I hired was being sued for malpractice 4) Other party's attorney was part of the Bar Counsel. Under these conditions I had to take a small win.

3 years later my case was reassigned. New judge did not know this history and on a "he said" basis (on same lies that predated my win) he discontinued my small win. I appealled and now learned the Nevada Supreme Court will not remand because my case is "too small".

Do you think the The Nevada Family Court system failed? A child and an old lady's lives are forever changed.
