Michael and Marc (a.k.a. Nick Morelli and Pete Kaczmarekare) are apparently doing their press tour promoting the show, appearing with Marc's celebrity counterpart Jerry O'Connell on the Mark & Mercedes Show on Mix 94.1 yesterday morning.
The RJ article is full of wonderful quotes from the happy couple ... who are not letting their newfound celebrity go to their heads at all. From the RJ:
"The Defenders" is not "loosely" based on the real life legal exploits of Cristalli and Saggese.Oh, for sure! As we are all well aware, being an attorney is extremely exciting work ... people would love to watch what we actually do all day long. If only there were a single (possibly hyphenated) word to describe Marc and his arrogance. Something to do with a feminine hygiene product ...
"Loosely is the wrong term," Saggese said. "The show is closely based on what we do."
But, as Michael readily admits, the show isn't exactly like their real lives:
Cristalli's character, for example, is separated from his wife in the show, but the couple are "very much in love" in real life.Owe! I think I just tore that muscle that rolls your eyes back into your head.
Oh, and it turns out that question we raised in our last post wasn't so stupid after all:
Saggese said he and his partner intend to capitalize on the exposure provided by the show. "This is an opportunity of the rarest order," he said. "We plan on advertising. It would be foolish if we just sat by."We've had some interesting analysis in the comments about the trademark implications involved with using the name "The Defenders" in Las Vegas. Does it get any more interesting if Cristalli and Saggese actually start advertising their firm as The Defenders?
Good thing Rick isn't the litigious type.
FYI Marc and the fat kid from Stand By Me were also on the 107.5 radio show yesterday.Press tour is apperently in full gear.
ReplyDeleteWhoever suggested the name "Hey, isn't that John Belushi's untalented brother and the fat kid from Stand By Me?"* well, that person rules. It still makes me chuckle.
ReplyDelete*If I have altered it, the original was better.
They're still d'bags.
ReplyDeleteClark County Sheriffs Debate Scheduled for Tonight!
ReplyDeleteAll six candidates for Clark County Sheriff, including incumbent Sheriff Doug Gillespie, will be in attendance at a debate tomorrow night, Thursday, June 3. The forum will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Rainbow Library located at 3150 N. Buffalo Drive .
Hosted by the Charleston Neighborhood Preservation, the event is open to the public and all questions will be posed in a first come, first asked basis.
I heard the interview on 94.1. It sounded like bromance between Marc and O'Connell. Seriously. TLF. His fiancee said she didn't want him to leave. They stressed that the show will be about the importance of their work helping the little guy against the evil STATE. There could even be dirrrty business like pimps and hos.
ReplyDeleteThe interview was on until at least 8:54 or so and I was aiming to get to work by 9. Marc said he had a 9:30 hearing. Is he teaching him about cutting it close with the elevators??
Also, they are using O'Connell's status as a law student to protect attorney client privilege during client meetings. I especially loved that since O'Connell says he is taking a break from law school now for the show.
Those are my vague memories from the interview. Sorry, I have to go back to billing my clients and not saving the world like they do. I guess I am a bitter cog.
I thought O'Connell was a 1L at Southwestern last year? Guess this is as good experience as any going into OCI....

90 days of house arrest would suit me just fine right about now.
ReplyDeleteHouse arrest with 9800 square feet, 6 bedrooms, 7 full bathrooms, 2 half bathrooms, pool and spa sounds really good.
ReplyDeleteFolks, he plead guilty to failing to turn over a couple of checks which the government already had, and any idiot would have known that. What did you kids want from him/ He is going to lose his law license and it isn't even clear that he did anything wrong. I hope he did something wrong, or else this has been a very unfair ordeal. I think all of us would have had a hard time finding him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
ReplyDeleteI'll believe he's losing his law license when I see it. This is Nevada. As long as you've got the right connections you can get away with anything.
ReplyDeleteI think it's ridiculous that C & G are claiming first use in 2006.
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious that the first use by them was about 3 months ago.
I can't stand those two guys b/c of crap like this. Criminal defense attorneys are just like their clients.
This just shows the character of C & G.
I hate to say I'm actually rooting for Harris, but I can't wait for him to take it to them in Court. They'll lose. It's obvious, and I can't wait.
Look at the billboard closely, you will see two pigeons getting ready to shit on Belushi's head.
ReplyDeleteHarris lawyered up with Greenberg Traurig. CBS counsel said they represent C & S interests for now...
ReplyDeleteI just have one thing to say. In the preview, it shows "The Defenders" doing their own clever forensics investigation. How many other criminal attorneys have sat in calendar calls at the same time as C & S, and have heard "we are announcing not ready because our investigators haven't finished doing such and such." If C & S did their own investigating and this show was very close to reality, they should be announcing ready for every calendar call every time! Oh, and I'm pretty sure that had C or S ever pulled an antic like spilling water on a witness to prove a point, it would have spread like wildfire through the criminal bar, and I've never heard anything of the sort.
ReplyDeleteWhich prosecutor should O'Connell sleep with??
ReplyDeleteWhich prosecutor should O'Connell sleep with??
ReplyDeleteHarris didnt coin "the defenders"
ReplyDeleteHarris stole the name from a comic book published a long time ago. In any event, "The Defenders" is far too generic a term protect as there are lots of criminal defendars out there. Anyways, shouldn't harris be "A" defender instead if "the" defender?? Reminds me of Lerners struggle.
In any event, C & G are actual criminal defense lawyers who offer a far different practice from the sign em and plead em that harris' dumbasses run.
two retarded new york idiots.
