Election Day Roundup

A potpourri of items for you on this fine election day:
  • If you happen to be voting in Laughlin, you may actually recognize one of the names running for constable as our frequent, fashion-conscious commenter.

  • ATL posted a story last week about Nevada attorney Jonathan Goldsmith's lawsuit over "mean Facebook Comments." Are we really into the upper 11,000's with bar numbers already?

  • CPK has posted the pics from its recent annual party.

  • U.S. District Court Judge Roger Hunt granted a TRO and ordered Joanna Kishner's censure to be rescinded. We imagine it may be difficult to un-ring that bell. (PDF of Order)

  • Meanwhile, judicial candidate Ron Israel was censured for exposing his political party on a campaign flyer. (LV Sun)

Do you really need an invitation?

Once again, the nicest guy in P.I. is preparing to host one of the biggest lawyer shindigs of the year.

This years CPK "Open House" is this coming Friday (10/08/10) at 5:00 PM. Live music will be provided by Acoustic Soul, followed by a D.J. for those of you who like to shake a leg. Grub will be provided by Chino & Antonio's Pizza.

For those of you new to the scene, Craig's parties are a great place to eat, drink and walk that thin line that separates debauchery from disbarment. But seriously, there is no better networking opportunity for those of you seeking to make some law-friends. Pictures from last year's festivities are available here.

For those of you more experienced CPK party-goers, let's hear your favorite moments from years past. Hope to see you all there!

Fisticuffs at the CPK Party

Okay, okay ... we got the message.

Our bad for not putting up a post-CPK Party ... um ... post. It's the number one thing on our commenters minds, and we're sorry. Wea culpa.

Anyways, here's what we were able to glean about the fight at the party:
  1. Attorney (unknown) was getting frisky with Girlfriend (not his).

  2. Boyfriend (Boyd 2L) showed up, and took a swing at Attorney, thereby reducing his chances at OCI by one.

  3. Attorney Leon Symanski ("hired goon" or former Running Rebel great, depending on who you ask) stepped in and sent the men to their corners.
That's all we know, we're looking to you guys to fill in the blanks. Also, do let us know of any other party shenanigans of which you are aware.

As for Ed Miley ... we got nothing (yet). Although, kudos to LU for finding this gem.

We also got a little chuckle out of Ed's website profile - "member of the Divorce and Domestic Section of the State Bar of Nevada" ... really?

(Thanks, tipsters!)

Two Words: Beer Truck

It's that time of the year again ... the weather is cooling, the leaves are falling, and the nicest guy in P.I. is preparing to host the biggest lawyer shindig of the year.

This years CPK "Open House" begins this coming Friday (10/09/09) at 5:00 PM. Live music will be provided by West Coast Blues Conspiracy, followed by a D.J. for those of you who like to shake a leg. Grub will be provided by Amalfi Pizza & Pasta.

For those of you new to the scene, Craig's parties are a great place to eat, drink and walk that thin line that separates debauchery from disbarment. But seriously, there is no better networking opportunity for those of you seeking to make some law-friends.

Pictures from last year's festivities are available here. Feel free to play "Find the Judge" if you get bored at work (it amused us for way too long).

For those of you more experienced CPK party-goers, let's hear your favorite moments from years past. Hope to see you all there!

Adam Kutner v. Craig Kenny (Round 1 of the Tournament of Billboard/Television Vegas law firms)

The Round One match ups continue. Today's offering: Adam Kutner v. Craig Kenny (Voting will be open until 5 p.m. on Sat., 6/27).

Let's meet the contenders:

Adam Kutner
Readers of the blog know that Adam Kutner is no stranger to these pages or to the media spotlight. Back in May 2008, WWL nominated Mr. Kutner for the title of Biggest Douchebag in Vegas based on reports that he harshly abuses and mistreats his employees. (post available here). Kutner responded to the critical article published in Las Vegas City Life by stating that the allegations were false and merely an attack on his "good name" by a rival personal injury firm.
But this poll is not about which attorneys are and are not douchebags. No, this poll is about which Billboard or Television advertising law firm has the best litigation skill, extreme wealth, business model, most aggressive (effectively aggressive), best place to work, most embarrassing story, attorney's complete lack of shame, etc.
And Kutner has all those things. Would we even be talking about him if it wasn't for those annoying commercials where he walks through an automobile junkyard and tells injured parties to call his office? Injured Vegas residents know to call him after injuries resulting auto accidents, slip and falls--even in the case of dog bites. All in all, Kutner makes for a formidable tournament opponent.

Craig Kenny
The Law Offices of Craig Kenny may be the feel-good competitor of this tournament. Just a glance at Kenny's website presents a heart-warming picture of the staff surrounding the firm's sign (the web site also include pictures from the Kenny firm annual party). Such images mark a stark contrast with the alleged d-bag environment over at the Kutner office.
And the Kenny firm appears to be succeeding as well. Craig P. Kenny & Associates is doing so well that it is building a new four-story, class A office building in downtown Vegas. (LV Business Press) According to a press release we received, the new building will include a gym, theater and half-court basketball court accessible by all employees.
That said, while the Kenny law firm certainly should have been nominated to be one of the best places to work (Are you hiring by the way?), we're not exactly sure why the Kenny firm was nominated to be the best Billboard/Television Vegas law firm. The staff here at WWL can't think of a single ad we've seen involving Craig Kenny.
But in the end, the vote is up to the readers. So what do you think?

The End Of An Era

It has been a rough couple of months for ticket-busting firms. We suppose that it was only a matter of time, but Craig P. Kenny (who is, perhaps, the most photogenic man alive) has officially put the kibosh on his free ticket-fixing service.

CPK apparently used the free service as a form of advertising, hitting up "clients" for quid pro quo referrals after taking care of their tickets. We're sure that some people were abusing the system, but it was great while it lasted. The sad news from CPK's website:
Q: Is there a charge for you to represent me for my ticket?
A: Yes, we now charge a $50 administrative fee for each basic moving violation citation we handle. Please note that fees will be higher for criminal violations.
Granted, $50 still (likely) makes him the cheapest option in town, but it's not as good as free. It looks like the general public is going to have to start befriending attorneys if they want their tickets fixed gratis. Perish the thought!
