Do you really need an invitation?

Once again, the nicest guy in P.I. is preparing to host one of the biggest lawyer shindigs of the year.

This years CPK "Open House" is this coming Friday (10/08/10) at 5:00 PM. Live music will be provided by Acoustic Soul, followed by a D.J. for those of you who like to shake a leg. Grub will be provided by Chino & Antonio's Pizza.

For those of you new to the scene, Craig's parties are a great place to eat, drink and walk that thin line that separates debauchery from disbarment. But seriously, there is no better networking opportunity for those of you seeking to make some law-friends. Pictures from last year's festivities are available here.

For those of you more experienced CPK party-goers, let's hear your favorite moments from years past. Hope to see you all there!

  1. Gotta get my free shirt for Boyd Grads...the rest of you bitches that graduated somewhere else can bite the Boyd Grads who CPK honors every year!

  2. i'm pretty excited about this year only because the bar results come out the day before, so you know there will be a bunch of intoxicated new esquires and maybe even a few sad JDs (not esquires) crying in the corner....

  3. I can't go. I can't bear to watch an endless parade of young women flirting with old fat guys like myself in hopes of getting a job or "the ring."

  4. Craig Kenny = A Man of the People

Craig's annual party is the bomb. Those bitches at Jones Vargas and Lionel Sawyer might think they're all that, but I'll bet not one of them takes as many vacations, has as much fun, or lives in as nice a house as CPK. Fuck Biglaw.

Way to go, Craig! Stand up for the people.

  5. 10:18am = Boyd grad in the bottom third of the class rankings.

  6. Boyd Grads rock. You all just wish you could have gone to Boyd and get the cool CPK shirt every year. We all have jobs just like the rest of you and there are some dang good attorney's from Boyd. Most of you are mad that your school places lower in the rankings than Boyd and it gets stuck in your craw so you bash us. Bash away! I am laughing all the way to the bank!

  7. @ 10:36

    "attorney's"?? really??

    ReplyDelete
  8. Show tolerance. It's not that poor sap's fault she went to Boyd.

    ReplyDelete
  9. C'mon 10:36, "attorney's?" If you're going to talk s#!@ on behalf of us Boyd grads, at least get your grammar right.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm in "biglaw," a Boyd grad, and I wish I could work for CPK.

  11. Does not matter where you went to law school at, but whether or not you are a good lawyer. First case I tried, I kicked butt and the adverse was experienced and had gone to Harvard. So much for ivy league lawyers.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Who are the best attys to graduate from Boyd?

    ReplyDelete
  13. @11:27....touche...my fingers got the best of me. :) However, I am guessing most of you let your secretary pick that up....who said I was a she?

  14. I have found that where you went to law school doesn't mean sh*t. I went to a first tier school, but that doesn't mean I'm a millionaire. All that matters is passing the bar, finding a non construction defect related job, and watching the $$ roll in. Double kickstands and bluetooth douchebags bitches!!!

  15. If you want to do PI (which can be very lucrative, especially given the effort level required), then where you went to law school really does not matter.

If you want to practice business litigation or other more complex, sophisticated areas of the law, then where you went to law school will have much more of an impact--especially earlier in your career in opening doors and landing jobs.

On average, smarter people tend to get into the better schools, and smarter, more educated people tend to be better attorneys in the end. It's not rocket science, and there are always many exceptions to this general rule.

Either path can provide a comfortable living. It's whatever motivates you to get out of bed in the morning. Personally, I couldn't practice law if I had to do PI.

Question: If one is well- educated and went to a "better" school and practices in "business litigation or other more complex, sophisticated areas of the law" but is stressed and beholden to some partner who views him or her as a warm billing unit; is he or she necessarily "smarter" than someone who throws an annual beer bash, represents questionably injured blue collar people, makes a bundle, and has a good time?

    ReplyDelete
  17. 1:08 here. 1:21, who said I was stressed and/or beholden to a partner? More importantly, you miss the whole point to my post.

Actually, I am a partner at one of the bigger firms in town (I guess it would be considered "biglaw" for Vegas), and I, personally, enjoy doing real business work that challenges me instead of slinging PI cases. I have a great time and do quite well in the comp department too, thanks.

My point was to each his own and that where you went to law school can matter in certain contexts more than others. Best of luck to you whatever area of practice you may find yourself in and I hope that JD from your dogshit school takes you far.

  18. Must be the comedy blog. First we have curly in uniform on one blog and now we have howdy doody.

  19. I do Big Law (commerical litigation) but I would trade it in for shit law (brain dead personal injury work) in a heart beat. Anything beats working with douche bag bluetool wearing social retards who all seem to practice in "Big Law". Does anyone know if CPK is hiring?

    ReplyDelete
  20. CPK? As in California Pizza Kitchen? I believe with a Boyd law degree you just might qualify. For a wait-staff position.

    LMAO

  21. @2:19,

They may be looking for a part-time basketball ref, to go along with their court on the top level of their new office building.

Yes. They have a court on top of their offices. That's how much ass CPK kicks. Oh, and two of his attorneys are Boyd grads.

    ReplyDelete
  22. @ 1:08
You are a dick. Do you really think only "smarter" people get into the better schools? Really?
It has nothing to do with daddy's money?
You pompous cocksucker. If I knew who you were I'd smack that smug look right off your idiot face.

    ReplyDelete
  23. why can't everyone just get along

    ReplyDelete
  24. anyone else notice how the majority of male attorneys are divorced?

    ReplyDelete
  25. anyone know where to find the NV bar first time takers pass rate? I know they always post the overall with the pass list, but that percentage includes 2x's and others. I'm counting down the days and getting a little nervous

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hey 4:58, 1:08 here again. Why the hostility? Beating your chest on an anonymous blog really doesn't advance your argument in any fashion whatsoever (plus I could probably kick your little bitch ass anyway). I worked very, very hard on my own dime (not daddy's) to get into the best school I could (top 20, bitch), not Boyd, and have continued to work damn hard to get where I am now. By the way, I was only expressing a personal preference that I much prefer practicing real business work instead of PI.

  27. @ 1:08, 11:48 here. Like I said before, I too went to the good schools, got the good grades, but unlike your pompous self I actually get to see my (first) wife, my kids don't hate me, and I actually get the time to spend the money I make.
Go back to your cave, i.e. office, sleep with the secretary who really thinks you're going to leave your (third) wife, send your kids to the good schools where they can develop a drug habit and nurse their hatred for their Daddy who was never there, shut the fuck up, and leave the rest of us alone.

  28. @5:06 - anyone else notice how the majority of female attorneys are unmarried?

    ReplyDelete
  29. 11:48, it's time to take your meds and go to bed. The fact that you have to make such absurd assumptions about someone you don't even know just to make yourself feel better about your own life choices only reflects your own inadequacies and jealousy.

    ReplyDelete
  30. 5:06 PM

Do you have statistics to back that up? I'm a married male attorney but I usually fall in the meaty part of the curve - if I'm average and the majority are getting divorced I'm certain to be included. Notwithstanding the fact that I've been happily married for almost ten years.

Anyway, who drafts the best post-nuptial agreements in this crappy town? I'm finally in the mid six figures and need to protect myself.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Dear 8:54 PM,

The best way to protect yourself is to not get married.

    Sincerely,
    Wiseman

    ReplyDelete
  32. 5:06 here. I don't have any statistics...just a simple observation. But now that someone else mentioned it, yeah I suppose the majority of female attorneys (at least those that have been prcaticing for 3 or more years) also seem to be single.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I can think of exactly three female attorneys I would consider marrying. One of them is kind of fat, but she's so cool I could see myself mounting her after dinner every night anyway. Personality does count.

    ReplyDelete
  34. good to know that not all male attorneys are dbags. Either I'm one of those three, or you haven't met me yet.....i'm hotter than the BK hottie

  37. I am glad 1:08 went to great shcools and has a great job...thing is, you don't have to go to a school other than Boyd to get there even in Nevada's version of Big Law. Would be fun to see a spread sheet showing where Boyd Grads are now. That would shut up most of you bitches.

  39. This blog has become soooooooooo lame with all the tools ranting back and forth about where is better to go to law school, boyd or no boyd. Let's hear some legal gossip instead. With all the shenanigans our bar is known for this city must be teeming with gossip, but alas, no gossip to be found, just the same old boring law school banter.

Given CPK holds his party every year and honors BOYD, this is likely the best thread for Boyd banter. Fuck face.

  50. Most people hate laws since laws always restrict the freedom of human beings. In reality laws are like human beings who can be your friend, enemy, guide and servant. The Universe is an orderly place, governed by a set of unbreakable Laws. To live a successful and fulfilling life, one must understand and live by these Laws.
