We Have A Winner ...

In an surprise move (at least according to the comments we've received) on Christmas Eve, President Obama nominated Clark County Chief Deputy District Attorney Gloria Navarro to fill the federal district court seat left vacant by Brian Sandoval in September.

Navarro beat out Judge Cadish and other unknown candidates for the position. Congratulations, Judge Navarro, you are now untouchable. Our condolences to Judge Cadish, who would have surely won the spot if the decision were based upon the candidate with the best perm.

On a side note, Judge Navarro shares her name with the current Miss Cougar America. Coincidence?

  1. WTF? I'm resigning from the bar and leaving the country 'cause lord knows working hard, having a brain and any sort of legal competency matters NOT AT ALL!

  3. No, it's just that there were several MUCH more qualified candidates, but these other candidates were not women or quasi-minorities. Novarro is a very poor choice, but I guess Harry needs to do whatever he can to try and get re-elected.

  4. I've said it before, we should consider the model sometimes used in multi multi ehtnic India, where they would appoint 2 people to certain positions -- 1 to do the job, and 1 to fulfill the political appearances requirement.

  5. Lol at “best perm.”
Navarro was a federal public defender, which I firmly believe rots your brain. I don’t like Cadish so I was torn. She didn’t deserve the federal appointment, but it would have been nice to get rid of her.

  6. She was a special public defender, not a federal one. She was a FPD law clerk.

  7. criminal defense is much more difficult and challenging than prosecuting, so i can't agree with the aspersion of brain rot.

  8. You've prosecuted right? Defending is hard becuase making up the law, lying, and cheating is hard work. It also rots your brain like religion. That is, if you tell yourself something frequently enough you start to believe it.

All the articles said "federal public defender" so thanks for clearing that up.

  9. What an angry weasel -- it's not enough to bash the defense bar so you have to throw in a complete non-sequitir of an attack on religion? Your hate is showing, genius.

Prosecutors care about winning and incarcerating people to advance their careers. Justice is not a consideration.*

    * See how easy it is to spew your kind of ridiculous bile?

Anyway, having lived in countries without the checks on the state that we have, I'll take the U.S.

  10. 10:50 AM - this is de facto the case at many governmental agencies. It'd be more smooth if it was openly done.

  11. When was the last time you heard of a person who was nothing more than a local (as in Clark County)
deputy pubic defender nominated to become a federal judge. Never!? Only in Nevada.
