Patrick Murphy, Esq., dead at 56.

We've lost another of the greats. We wish Patrick's friends and family the best. From his obituary:
Memorial "wake" in remembrance of Mr. Murphy will be 5:30-8 p.m. this Thursday, Sept. 16, in the ballroom located on the second floor of the California Hotel and Casino.

In lieu of flowers, it was Mr. Murphy's fondest wish that his friends send each other copies of the 1952 John Ford film, "The Quiet Man," starring John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara and Barry Fitzgerald.

Awesome. Well done, Pat.

Please use this thread only for well-wishes and condolences.

  1. Not one who was fortunate to know this man, though I had heard many stories from those who did. He was a living legend! My prayers go out to his friends and family.

  2. I'm a new attorney and the first mediation I had was with him. He was helpful, professional, and seemed dedicated and passionate about being a mediator. My bosses have nothing but nice things to say about him. He'll be missed....

  3. I'm hearing rumors about cause of death that I don't believe. Also read that Costa Rica is doing an autopsy.

Anyone know what happened to him?

  4. Rest in Peace Pat. Have never heard an attorney say a coarse word about Pat unless they owed him a debt on the golf course.

  5. We will all miss his great joy of life, his wit, his sense of humor. A terric Mediator and a terrific teacher to work with on our joint Panels! Those eyes were always twinkling with Irish laughter. May God light a candle, Pat, to guide you home, and may Saint Peter have a bottle of Irish Whiskey and three glasses, one for you, one for St.Peter and one for all of your friends to offer you a toast.

  6. RIP Pat Murphy.

To a rugged, two-fisted sentimentalist who traveled life's bumpy road with a twinkle in his eye, a glass in his hand and love in his heart.
There is a word for someone like Pat.
    IRISH

  8. Does anyone know the cause of death--rumors or otherwise. I believe he had some heart problems and was overweight. Doesn't that describe just about every lawyer who works in this business male or female who makes it 50 plus?

  9. Scottish, but still seems appropriate:

A lone bagpipe plays Amazing Grace on top of a hill while the mist rolls in...now let's have a toast to my friend Pat.

  10. @3:04...the Irish have the pipes as well. SLAINTE PAT!

  11. May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
May the rains fall soft upon your fields,
    And, until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

  12. I did not know Pat but Scottish? Murphy is the #1 most common Irish surname. Perhaps he was Scottish on his mother's side or his branch of the family Murphy relocated to Scotland somewhere in the past but I bet his family originated in Ireland.

  13. No, 9:51. 3:04 isn't referring to Pat. The saying that was posted. It was a beautiful wake. Amazing stories of Pat's kindness. Please, don't use this forum for rumors about the cause of his death. He was deeply loved.

  14. Just curious, but how many copies of "The Quiet Man" did he think his friends needed?
