Latest Drama in Doctor Needles/Endoscopy Case

There is no honor among thieves, or apparently among [alleged] needle-sharing Hepatitis-C spreading doctors. Turns out one of Dr. "Needles" Desai's colleagues will testify against the good doctor and his [alleged] needle-sharing associates.

The Las Vegas Sun reports:

The medical board’s agreement this week to punish Dr. Eladio Carrera only lightly comes with a major condition: Carrera must provide the medical board with testimony against Desai, majority owner of the clinic, and Dr. Clifford Carrol, who is accused of causing the outbreak through his careless treatment of a patient with hepatitis C.

As part of the agreement, Carrera will pay a $15,000 fine — the maximum of $5,000 for three counts of bringing the medical profession into disrepute — and be placed on probation for two years. He gets his medical license back immediately.

Executive Director of the Medical Board, Louis Ling explained why the deal was cut with Carrera:

"He gives us insider evidence there is no other way to get," Ling said. "How the clinic operated, who was in charge of what, what happened day to day." . . .

And . . . If Carrera's testimony against Desai and Carrol is "materially different" than what he has told the board, the board can discipline him further. (RJ)

Poor Doctor Needles. If only he hadn't managed to stay out of prison. In prison he could have paid for the murder of his former colleague. Oh, well, I guess Dr. Needles will have to console himself by driving that Mercedes he wasn't able to hide from his [alleged] victims by shipping it to Dubai (post available here) and relaxing in his golf course home [pictured above].
