Well, Las Vegas resident Nicholas Anthony Del Vecchio, a former Clark County family court judge removed by the Commission on Judicial Discipline in 2008, thinks he could do better for Nye. Del Vecchio was removed from office after he admitted to having sex in hotels with a female staff member during working hours and made sexually suggestive remarks to another. He was also charged with inappropriate remarks to a Hispanic bailiff and a black employee.
The Order removing him said, "Judge Del Vecchio's pervasive and unhealthy fixation on sex and sexual innuendo in the workplace is both evident and objectionable. His repeated behavior was so boorish and crude as to be unimaginable in any employment setting, much less a court of law." If that ain't DA material, we don't know what is!

His repeated behavior was so boorish and crude as to be unimaginable in any employment setting, much less a court of law." If that ain't DA material, we don't know what is!
When asked about his past removal from office during an interview, Del Vecchio had this to say:
"The current DA was popped for two DUIs, so I guess it's up to the voting public to decide which one of the wrongdoings I guess is more severe, number one. Number two, I will say I admit what I did, I apologize for what I did, and I attended and completed counseling. This is America the land of second chances. I knew it was going to come up. It's just one of those things and there's no way around it. You could certainly question my sanity, stepping back into the public light again."
We certainly can, and will ... you crazy bastard! That's exactly what the public wants to do when choosing a DA - pick the one with the least severe criminal history.
Luckily there is a second choice for Nye residents. A decent candidate with no apparent criminal history named Brian Kunzi has also entered the race. We're pulling for ya, Brian. Where do we send the donations?
(Pahrump Valley Times; Thanks Tipster!)
I suppose we in Clark County should be grateful that he isn't trying to run against Roger for DA of Clark County...
ReplyDeleteAs my soapbox moment, I hope the Supremes and the State Bar start paying better attention as the recent string of news while comical is certainly not good for the rest of us Nevada attorneys...
Whatever happened to shame? Shame used to keep this kind of thing from happening. Shame . . . Come back, Shame!
ReplyDelete9:15AM-- amen to that...
ReplyDelete"pick the one with the least severe criminal history"? Since when is banging staffers illegal? If there's a law out there we need to prosecute about 70% of the attorneys in town.
ReplyDeleteGranted, having relations with co-workers or employees is not the smartest thing to do but give Nicky a break. He's a pretty decent guy. He's just a little bit of a horndog.
First, one of the women Del Vecchio was supposedly involved with was his step-daughter (starting when she was a minor) who later became one of his office staffers. Someone needs to issue a collective "ICK".
ReplyDeleteThat said, if he ran against David Rogers, Del Vecchio would probably get my vote.
As for Nye County, I've worked with Brian Kunzi and he would be a great addition to public office in that county. He's balanced, fair, knows the law and is one funny bastard.
9:30AM- your right. What is worse is that with his stepdaughter he used a quid pro quo of she would be his law clerk one day (she was his JEA at the time) if she keeps sleeping with him (which is a violation of the law).
ReplyDeleteCharlie Watkins (who is currently a Deputy DA) would be a very good choice, and would get my vote were I a resident of Nye. That's based on knowing Charlie, and is not any criticism of Kunzi.
ReplyDeleteBeckett's adventures on the road don't even BEGIN to scratch the surface of the shite going on with that office.
Is it too late for them to add Troy Fox's name to the ballot?
ReplyDeleteKunzi is a good guy. Smart, honest, zealous, and fair. No, I'm not him. The deputy DA has had his own problems with the law, I think.
ReplyDeleteI thought you didn't make political endorsements, or is that only for judges?
ReplyDelete9:37, you wouldn't by chance be Charlie's mom?
ReplyDeleteNo, I'm not Charlie's mom. Is Kunzi your daddy?
ReplyDeleteWhy the hostility to someone with knowledge throwing it in? Did I interfere with the blog's designated choice? From what I hear, Kunzi is a solid guy, but I don't know him.
I do know Watkins.
"The deputy DA has had his own problems with the law, I think"
If you don't have anything specific, you shouldn't throw out a vague smear. A specific smear, okay, but what you did was cowardly. Cough up the specifics.
I rise in support of Brian Kunzi-
ReplyDeleteI worked at the AG for a while and dealt with Brian quite a bit. He's an excellent attorney and a great guy. Brian once said something to me which I still recall to this day:
"The great thing about power is that you don't have to use it..."
IMHO, The fact that he understands that, speaks volumes about the man. And, no, I'm not him, either.
MORE to this than the blog tells us. The current DA was driving a county vehicle in one of those same day incidents. And it was not just DUI it was with rollover accidents. Additionally, the other Nye County Prosecutor who has a DUI was also driving a county car at the time.
ReplyDeleteDel Vecchio used to make a habit of pointing out, in court, on the record that Boyd School of Law was against him because they would not allow him to teach as adjunct faculty. Didn't he run like 7 times for family court before he finally got in?
11:18,
ReplyDeleteDouchebag much? Don't answer, it's a rhetorical question. The initial frivolous reply to me was dismissive, which would be fine, but I wanted to retierate a serious point which was germane to the discussion.
I apologize to all for having the temerity to offer a well-informed opinion evidently at variance with the Party Line.
It's pretty clear that this post is a political endorsement (which given the person endorsed, Kunzi, isn't necessarily a bad thing; nonetheless, you guys should be honest about it).
Del Vecchio is definitely a perv, but he's absolutely right about second chances in this country. Several famous and powerful people, who probably should have gone into hiding, simply refused to, and after doing some time soul-searching and finding God or Buddha in "counseling," they got to resume earning an income. Tiger Woods, Woody Allen, Roman Polanski, R Kelly, Pete Townshend, Michael Jackson, Mark Sanford, Bill Clinton, John Ensign, John Edwards, Larry Craig, Clarence Thomas, etc., etc. all got to continue in their careers after being exposed as creeps. The list of notable pervs goes on and on....just add Del Vecchio to it.
ReplyDeleteIt's Pahrump! All of the candidates are imminently qualified: quasi-incestuous sexual relationships, drinking and crashing the company vehicle.... insert "You know your a redneck" joke here:
ReplyDeleteTroy Fox would make an excellent DA.
ReplyDeleteThe Troy Fox jokes, while funny at first, are no longer funny. I get the jokes, I went to law school with that guy. But really, 95% of the people on here dont get them and the other 5% think you are beating a dead joke.
ReplyDeleteA million years ago, when we did not have family court judges, only 3 "referees" I was a law clerk. It was my job to go thru a checklist to ensure that the divorce docs were in order for that mornings prove-up calendar. If the docs were not correct we sent them back. Two attorneys stood out for NEVER getting it right the first time. To the point it was no longer laughable (like Troy Fox references) Who were they? Steele and Del Vecchio. This makes them reason 321 and 322 I will never go to family court, a land were law and reason give way to shouting and ego
ReplyDelete1:47 How is the blog not being honest about it being a political endorsement? It could not be more blatantly stated that it IS a political endorsement.
ReplyDeleteA) who cares if this blog gives a political endorsement - it's not like we know who the author is or give the author significant weight in making our voting decisions?
ReplyDeleteB) the blog merely offered support for the one candidate without obvious moral/ethical short comings.
I remember reading about the drunk driving madness and Del sickio's perverted ways with his step daughter - both those guys make me sick. If I voted in Nye county it would be for the third candidate for sure.
@ 4:26
ReplyDeleteYou're a prick. I don't know Troy Fox, but honestly. Enough.
You're a loser. Did he take your seat one day in class or outperform you on an exam.
It was funny about the first 84 times, but the last 78,890,337 times, it's just been old.
Del Vecchio turn down a job with Sen Ensign to run for DA
ReplyDeleteTroy Fox outperformed everyone on exams.
ReplyDeleteWatkins has lots of problems starting with cheating and kicking the girlfriend out on the street to move his neighbors wife in. Nice guy not my favorite! Kunzi is better than Watkins any day! No I am not Brian Kunzi; but I do know that Charlie forgot to show up to court and when he finally did it was in jeans and no coat he had run around and borrow one.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Kent goes he is a drunk. Beckett was cleared not drunk and no alcohol on the first and the second was blood sugar and he has the medical to prove it. He is walking around with them. Kent had 3 DUI's or maybe four I lost count. Also, heard he was fired for abusing female office staff.
