Kevin Williams

Clark County District Court Hearing Master Kevin Williams died in his home Tuesday morning. The 51-year-old judicial officer passed away in his sleep.

Williams became the District Court's first criminal arraignment hearing master in 2006. He previously served as a Clark County public defender for 16 years. Williams began his career as a law clerk in 1989.

Our hearts go out to Kevin's friends and family. Please use this thread only for condolences, well-wishes and stories about Kevin.

  1. All sympathy to the family. He had a distinctiveness that was endearing and was always so nice. He will be missed by so many people.

  2. This is District Court Judge Timothy William's brother. Their mom raised 3 sons on the mean streets of Las Vegas -- two lawyers and a doctor. Kevin successfully avoided all the racial stereotypes but one -- that black men die early.

  3. I didn't know him personally, but he sure could move cases in arraignment court.

  4. Just a few months ago, I took a group of elementary school kids on a tour of the RJC. During a break in the arraignments calendar, he took time to talk to the kids, tell them that most of the defendants dropped out of school, and to encourage them to complete their education. Great guy.

  6. Also, God Bless this man for doing the world's most thankless job...District Court arraignments and guilty pleas.

  7. Words cannot even begin to express our sorrow over Kevin's passing. I was Kevin's Investigator in the PD's office for years. I greatly admired him for his brilliant legal mind, kind manner and effectiveness. While Kevin was never the most organized in the office, his trial prowess was without question. We spent hundreds of hours together discussing trial strategy and investigative angles. I enjoyed working with Kevin and it's true he really did have a "distinctiveness that was endearing". I have a picture of Kevin on my wall with 3 of my children, I look at it often and realize he always had time for children, no matter how busy he was. Thank you for being my friend and teacher. I will cherish the memory of our friendship and company. (especially the gossipy lunches) May God Bless you. RIP

  9. I, too, was so surprised and impressed that Judge Kevin Williams took the time to welcome and emphasize the importance of education to my students who were touring the RJC a couple months ago. I can just imagine the positive impact he has had on so many people, young and old, based on the short amount of time we were in his presence.

  12. Quietly in your sleep is the way to go. Sympathy to his loved ones. Death has a way of making so many things in life seem vain.
